Alcatel-Lucent has signed two contracts with Vietnam Telecom National (VTN), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Vietnam Posts & Telecommunications Corporation Group (VNPT), to help the operator transform its network.

Alca-Lu said that it will provide its IP/MPLS solutions, including the 7750 Service Router(SR) and the 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM). the company believes its flexible IP/MPLS infrastructure will provide VTN with scalability, bandwidth on demand as well as increased service level guarantees.

Leveraging its packet optical transport and Zero Touch Photonics offering, Alcatel-Lucent will also supply its 1850 Transport Service Switch (1850 TSS) and 1830 Photonic Service Switch (1830 PSS). Operating at 40 Gbps, the solution is expected to allow VTN to respond to end-user needs faster.

Alcatel-Lucent has signed a centralised purchasing contract with China Telecom, a telecom operator in China, to provide and maintain an IP/MPLS backbone across ten provinces (Guangxi, Hubei, Jiangxi, Ningxia, Sichuan, Jiangsu, Guizhou, Gansu, Xinjiang and Shanghai).

Upon completion in October, China Telecom hopes to deliver advanced broadband services with improved quality. The contract, which is part of the $700m framework agreement recently signed between China Telecom and Alcatel-Lucent, was awarded to Alca-Lu’s Chinese flagship company, Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell.

Alca-Lu informed that it will deploy its 7750 Service Router (SR) and 7450 Ethernet Service Switch (ESS) providing the bandwidth, scale and service awareness required to support the market for more personalised, broadband offerings such as IPTV, WebTV, Virtual Private Networks, and 3G/4G mobile.

Bharti Airtel, an integrated telecom service provider headquartered in India, and Alcatel-Lucent, a communication solutions provider, have formed a joint venture to manage Bharti Airtel’s pan-India broadband and telephone services and help Airtel’s transition to next generation networks.

Under the joint venture, Alcatel-Lucent will design, plan, deploy, optimise and manage Bharti Airtel’s broadband and telephone network across India.

A new legal entity is being formed which will be operated by Alcatel-Lucent.

This managed services partnership will include all end-to-end activities – service rollout, installation and fault repair, service continuity and transformation.

It will support Bharti Airtel’s transformation to next generation networks, offering advanced services like high-speed internet, triple play, media-rich VAS, MPLS, VPN for both retail and business customers.

Alcatel-Lucent has been chosen by SK Broadband (formerly known as Hanaro Telecom), a service provider in Souh Korea, to supply and maintain its IP service routing solution to support the operator’s real time IPTV service.

Alcatel-Lucent said its IP/MPLS technology will enable SK Broadband to deliver advanced broadband services including real time IPTV services, high-definition television, video-on-demand, voice over IP and high-speed internet access, all with superior service quality. 

The company will supply a flexible IP/MPLS infrastructure, providing scalability, bandwidth on demand as well as increased service level guarantees. It will supply its 7750 Service Router (SR) in the core and aggregation levels of the network.

Alcatel-Lucent has been awarded an extension contract by Delta Telecom, a data, voice and backbone service provider in the Caucasus region, to extend its IP Multi-Protocol Label Switching (IP/MPLS) backbone network. The scope of the contract includes design, deployment and maintenance of the network.

Alcatel-Lucent believes its Carrier Ethernet and IP/MPLS solutions will enable Delta Telecom to offer improved communication services to its business customers. The newly-upgraded IP/MPLS network will form the platform for future services, which will enable the next wave of advanced services with minimal further investment, the company said.

Alcatel-Lucent further informed that its IP/MPLS solution supports Delta Telecom’s evolution to a packet-based network architecture as part of the operator’s ongoing MPLS network transformation process.

This approach will enable Delta Telecom to support the convergence of IP voice, data and video over Layer 2 and/or Layer 3 business VPN services with the performance and resiliency necessary to run latency-sensitive applications. The solution will also enable Delta Telecom to tailor business VPN service offerings to each enterprise’s unique requirements, the company noted.

Ericsson is using its WCDMA/HSPA technology to help BSNL, a telecom operator in India, to launch 3G services across 11 cities in the country. The commercial launch of the 3G services in India is expected to allow consumers to experience improved communications including rich voice, video and data services.

As part of its roll-out strategy, BSNL plans to launch 3G services using WCDMA/HSPA technology across more than 700 cities in the first phase. Ericsson is BSNL’s strategic partner for 3G roll-out in over 400 of these cities.

The mammoth roll-out is also expected to strengthen BSNL’s position as a player with an offering including Wireline, GSM Mobile, CDMA mobile, Internet, Broadband, Carrier service, MPLS-VPN, VSAT, VoIP services, IN Services to Indian consumers.

Huawei Technologies, a  provider of next-generation telecommunications network solutions, has announced that its Fixed-Mobile Convergence (FMC) oriented Metro Solution has successfully passed the multi-vendor interoperability test (IOT) administered by the European Advanced Networking Test Center (EANTC).

EANTC, a global independent test centre, evaluated Huawei’s Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) and Carrier Ethernet in the areas of service, connection and transport.

The company’s NE40E Universal Service Router and CX600 Metro Service Platform reportedly met all of the IOT requirements, including those for time division multiplexing (TDM) traffic over IP, MPLS and Ethernet encapsulations.

Bharti Airtel, an integrated telecom service provider in India, has signed a strategic agreement with Virtela, a global managed service provider, to enhance its international managed MPLS (Multi Protocol Label Switching) connectivity outside of India to more than 5,000 PoPs (Point of Presence) across 190 countries.

Under the agreement, Bharti Airtel and Virtela have integrated their networks through connection points in Southeast Asia and Europe in order to expand Bharti’s MPLS based IP-VPN (Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network) capabilities around the world.

Bharti Airtel informed that it will now be able to offer its enterprise customers managed MPLS connectivity and advanced managed network solutions to key business customers on a global basis.
