AppTech completes Jesus App

AppTech has completed company’s first app designed for the Christian community throughout the world. The Jesus app has been submitted to the iPhone App Store in English and is being translated into Spanish and Portuguese.

Approval to commence sales is expected from the App Store in the near future. AppTech will donate twenty percent (20%) of all company revenue from sales of the $.99 ‘Jesus App’ to benefit the American Cancer Society.

The company now intends to develop a series of applications that will benefit various non-profit organisations throughout the world from the sales revenue generated to the company.

Telkom selects Alcatel-Lucent solution

Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom), a provider in Indonesia, has selected ALcatel Lucent to undertake a transformation of its backbone network.

By converging IP and optical networks, Alcatel-Lucent’s solution is expected to enable Telkom to cope with the increasing data traffic, simplify its network, and reduce costs.

Alcatel-Lucent will supply its next-generation 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) powered with Wavelength TrackerTM and GMPLS control plane functionalities combined with Alcatel-Lucent’s Service Router IP/MPLS platform with integrated Tuneable DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) interfaces to provide a manageable and future-proof solution for Telkom.

The company will also also provide Telkom with technical supervision and training across the solution.

Onechip Photonics opens regional office in Shenzhen

Onechip Photonics has opened a new regional office in Shenzhen to support the critical operations of local customers.

Featuring an on-site lab, the new facility will enable the company to offer testing, debugging, and demonstrations for addressing the immediate technical needs of regional customers.

Onechip also announced the establishment of its relationships with ACE Broadband Technology Chengdu and Shenzhen Milli-tech Electronics. The agreements with ACE and Milli-tech are as distributor and manufacturer’s representative, respectively.

OneChip’s new Shenzhen regional office will house field application engineers, software customer support, and manufacturing and process support personnel who, with access to the on-site lab, will be able to respond and provide readily available technical feedback.

Former Hitachi executive to lead RPX’s Asia operations

Former Hitachi executive, Hisao Yamasaki, has joined RPX, a San Francisco-based provider of patent risk solutions. Yamasaki, 46, will serve as president of RPX Asia, responsible for client relations and new client development in the region.

Yamasaki will be based in the company’s new offices in Tokyo. He joins RPX at a time when the company needs a local presence to service its 12 Asia-based clients and expand its worldwide client network.

Yamasaki has had a 25-year career at Hitachi where he served in several executive positions dedicated to patent management. Most recently, Yamasaki was general manager of IP business development and licensing, responsible for all business aspects of Hitachi and its subsidiaries’ intellectual property assets, including licensing strategies and operations, and patent portfolio transactions.

Bharti Airtel launches Global Data Services in Thailand & Malaysia

Bharti Airtel has launched its services in Thailand and Malaysia. The services include IP, Managed MPLS and Ethernet for customers in the region.

The company has partnered with the Thai company True International Gateway and Telecom Malaysia to launch the services in the two countries.

The company informed that the services will provide three levels of connectivity in the region supported by submarine infrastructure, including the i2i, AAG and APCN2/UNITY cables. The infrastructure will connect the countries to Africa, Europe and the US by offering at least three cables on every route.

The launch is part of Airtel’s aim to connect countries like Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam and others to key international markets via its global network infrastructure.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts launches app for BlackBerry phones

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has launched the SPG App for BlackBerry smartphones. The app is based on its Starwood Preferred Guest program.

The SPG App enables BlackBerry smartphone users to browse and make reservations at 1,000 Starwood properties across the globe. Members can also use the new application to manage current reservations, view their Starpoints balance, check on recent account activity, connect with customer service, get directions and maps to their hotel from their current location, and access TheLobby.com – the SPG blog featuring travel trends and tips.

The SPG App is now available on BlackBerry App World or by visiting spg.com/BBapp.

Alcatel-Lucent acquires Openplug

Alcatel-Lucent has acquired Openplug, a mobile software and applications development tools vendor. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Alcatel-Lucent can now extend Openplug’s functionality to service providers, enterprises and developers so they can create and deploy applications across multiple mobile devices and within service provider app stores.

As a result, applications that had previously only been available on more sophisticated devices such as smartphones, can now be enjoyed by consumers on any mobile device.

The Openplug toolset will be incorporated into Alcatel-Lucent’s Developer Platform and Open API Service.

First Data launches payment security solution

First Data, a player in electronic commerce and payment processing, has launched its First Data TransArmor solution. The payment security service will be available to merchants of all sizes through the company’s network of resale partners.

The TransArmor solution basically changes the way merchants secure and manage cardholder data. The service protects consumer payment card data from the moment it enters the merchant environment, and replaces card data with a token number that preserves the value of card data for merchant business operations but removes all value for fraudsters. As a result, merchants are able to reduce the scope, risk and costs associated with Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance without requiring new hardware or extensive changes to existing business processes.

IBM acquires Sterling Commerce

IBM has announced the closing of its acquisition of Sterling Commerce. The company is expected to expand IBM’s ability to help clients improve their interactions with customers, partners and suppliers through business networks using either on-premise or cloud delivery models.

Sterling Commerce provides software for cross-channel commerce and integration of customer, partner and supplier networks across a range of industries.

With the closing of this acquisition approximately 2,500 Sterling Commerce employees join IBM. IBM will continue to support Sterling Commerce’s clients while allowing them to take advantage of the broader IBM portfolio.

FSV Payment Systems announces new CEO

FSV Payment Systems, a provider of pre-paid debit processing and program management services, has announced that Richard Savard has succeeded Jonathan Palmer as FSV’s President and Chief Executive Officer, reporting to FSV’s Board of Directors.

Palmer who has served as President and CEO since October 2005, will remain with the company as a Director. He Palmer will also consult with the company on strategic issues.

Savard has been a member of FSV’s Board of Directors since mid-2009. He previously served as CEO of NetSpend, a prepaid debit company based in Austin, Texas. Prior to that he held senior positions in marketing and financial services for Macy’s in both New York City and in Cincinnati, Ohio.
